Flowering Wreath

I've been wanting a cute, floral wreath to hang on my door for spring/Easter...I keep seeing really cute ones at my favorite place, Target, but they're always so dang expensive...or, well, more than I'm willing to pay. So my solution was to make my own--it would be cheaper AND I could decide how I wanted it to look.
I started by going to my other favorite place, Hobby Lobby.
I found myself a wicker wreath and a few cute floral bunches (at 50% off, of course!)

I decided that instead of placing a whole stem of flowers with their own leaves on the wreath, I would pick out my favorite leaf style and separate it from it's flower. It was a lot easier to arrange that way. So I placed the leaves, still on their stems, in the way that I wanted. Then I hot glued them down.

Then I placed each flower type on sepeartely. I would always place the flowers where I thought they would look best and then I would go back and hot glue them.

I started with the long line of little yellow flowers...

...then the pink flowers...

...then the white budding flowers, and finally the yellow budding flowers.

And here's the finished product!! It's not hanging on my door, but that's because it was too late to search for my wreath hanger.

Thanks Denine and Shannon for helping me decide what colors to choose. I think it turned out great :)

So thankful!

I know it's pretty common, but I really didn't want to work when I had kids. I wanted to be the stay-at-home mom who devoted all her time to her children. I still wanted to have a college degree so that if I needed to work, I could. Wellll...things didn't quite work out the way I wanted it to, although I still have hope for the future. Unfortunately I haven't finished school, and neither has Jeff, but we are working to reach this goal. The point of this post, though, is that although I don't have my ideal situation of staying home with my baby all day, I have been blessed because my schedule at work was just approved! This means that I will be working part time, opposite of Jeff's hours, so that I can stay home with Wyatt during the day, and Jeff will be home at night to take care of him. I will only work 3 nights during the work week and will be home by about 9:30pm, so it won't be that Jeff and I will never see each other...AND because I'm working the night shift I get an additional 10% added to my pay, AND I get to keep all my benefits! Woohoo!! This is such a huge blessing and I am so SO happy that everything worked out for us. I know Heavenly Father had a part in this, and I know he knows our situation and what we need. I'm so thankful. And so relieved. And most of all, I'm thankful that Wyatt doesn't need a babysitter (for the most part), and that he can be with his family.

Splish, Splash!

splish, splash!!
Wyatt loves his baths. And he's just learned how to kick and use his arms to splash around!
This is his 'I-gotta-concentrate' face
(...don't mind my editing, hehe!)
He loves to make his mama laugh!

Shelf for Wyatt's room

I've been looking for a shelf for Wyatt's room since before he was born, but hadn't been able to find anything I liked...and then 2 weeks ago I went to Hobby Lobby (LOVE IT!) and found this one for 50% off. Yessssss.

I was FINALLY able to put up these cute blocks that my sister-in-law, Shannon, made for him...I got them at one of my showers, so I've been storing them for a while...
(If you want to see how she made them you can go here)

Here's a better view:
Isn't it so cute?

Three Months Old Already!

Little Wyatt is getting so big!! He just turned 3 months yesterday...where has the time gone?!
My mom told me I should be thankful for having such a good baby. I was thinking about that comment, and I've come to realize he really does have a great temperment. I love him so much...
Here are some recent happenings this last month:
He loves being outdoors. If he's fussy at all, nothing's surer to calm him down than being outside.
He sticks his tongue out and chews on it. This has only started happening the last couple of days and we can't figure out why he does's like he's tasting the air or something...
He likes to stand up and show us how strong his legs are! (He also sits up pretty well, but still needs our help to keep from toppling over...)
He's a chatty boy. I wish blogger would upload movie clips faster, but it doesn't, so I can't show you how cute it is. You'll just have to take my word for it--he loves to talk and talk and talk...
Along with smiling constantly, he also has the funniest faces, one of them being this:
He went goofy-golfing for the first time!! He slept through most of it, but when he woke up he was bundled up all cute-like, haha!
His hair is getting longer...but unfortunately not any thicker. He has a lovely mullet which I like to curl after his bath when his hair is wet...
We changed him to a size 2 diaper because this kept happening:
...speaking of diapers, he loves to have his changed!! Any time he's naked is a good time!
...speaking of naked, he also loves his baths...or showers, whichever...
He sleeps with his eyes open. Just like his mama, haha! And he's an excellent sleeper! He's been sleeping through the night, 7-8 hours, for about 3 weeks now, but he'd always take his longer naps at night, ever since he was born...LOVE him!!
He recognizes familiar faces...and he loves his Opa!! (And the rest of the family too, of course!)
Some other things he's done this last month:
  • He's started trying to grasp for things. He still doesn't have full control of his hands, but whenever something interests him he tries to grab it.
  • His eyes are starting to change color. They're still blue, but the inner irises are starting to turn greenish..
  • He got his foot and hand imprinted in clay so we could have it as a keepsake. My mother-in-law suggested it and bought it for us...I should receive it in about 3 weeks, so I'll be sure to post the finished product! Thanks Mom!
  • He's started laughing!!
  • He has the cutest pouty face I've ever seen in my life. It usually happens right after he wakes up and is ready to eat. If I don't feed him right away, he'll start a little whiny cry and stick out his lower lip and put on the biggest frown. I know I shouldn't laugh at him, but it's so dang funny!
  • His personality is developing more. His emotions are more distinctive and it's easier to tell when he's being whiny, angry, sad, and happy.
  • He drools. And slobbers. And blows bubbles. And is constantly drenched. But no teeth yet.

I have less than a month until I return to work, and I'm definitely not looking forward to it, but I'm so grateful I was able to have this much time with him. Thankfully, I hope to go back to work part time and stay home during the day and work at night while Jeff can be with him. We are so happy to be Wyatt's parents and we love him so so much. He's the sweetest little spirit and as precious as can be.

First family pictures

Jeff and Wyatt and I had our first family pictures taken about a week ago. We had a coupon for a good deal at Target, so we decided we should take advantage of it. They turned out pretty good for the situation--Wyatt was a total fuss, and I couldn't figure out why. He'd just woken up from a nap, and I'd just fed him, so in all other normal circumstances, it would've been his happiest time. But of course THIS time, the time when he needed to be happy and smile, all he wanted to do was cry.
But thankfully we were able to trick him a little bit by giving him his pacifier to calm down, and then as soon as the photographer was ready to take the shot, we yanked it out of his mouth.

This was our favorite of the bunch...
This was one of my favorites...
And this was so tender...

(these had to be scanned onto my computer, so hopefully that explains the quality of the photos, haha!)

We read.

Wyatt is almost 3 months. I'm bad at entertaining him with toys...we have a few, but because he wasn't very old, I figured he wouldn't know what to do with them. I think he's so chatty because I'm constantly talking to him to keep him happy...but anyway, instead of lots of toys, we've come to realize he likes books. His attention span only lasts the length of one book, but it's so cute to watch him try to grab at the pictures and focus on the images.
...that would be drool on my shoulder...

...and then this is just a cute shot I got of him right out of the bath, heehee!
