I love my family.

I know I've said it before, but Jeff and I have awesome parents. We are truly blessed to have both our families so close by, who are always willing to help us out with Wyatt. It's really hard for me to leave Wyatt any more than I have to, but I'm glad it's usually family that can take him. The last few weeks I've been picking up extra hours at work to prepare for the 2 weeks Jeff isn't working at the end of December...and it's so hard. I hate not being home and having to drive him back and forth from Mesa to Gilbert, and I feel like sometimes he spends more time in the car for the commute than he does with me.

BUT...

I know that when he's not with me, he's with someone else who loves him just as much. And for that I'm grateful. Wyatt has the best grandparents and aunts and uncles in the world. I wish I had more pictures to show of Wyatt with Jeff's parents...he definitely loves Grandpa Downs' mustache, and Grandma Downs can get him to sleep so well with her lullabies.

I did want to show some of the tender moments...reminders...that help me realize he is always loved.

I love my family.

It's not too early for resolutions yet, is it?

I stole this from Noelle's blog. It was so super awesome, I couldn't resist.
And it got me thinking...I'm grateful to have good friendships, and friendships that last.

Because I have these friends so close by, it makes me appreciate the friends I don't see so often...especially MLD Danielle....
I wish she was closer...and not so far away in RI.
I wish I was a better friend to her.
I wish I could visit her and be there.

NEW YEARS RESOLUTION #1:
BE A BETTER FRIEND.

Temple Lights

Our planning was excellent! It had been drizzling all day, but yesterday night it was PERFECT to go see the Temple lights!
(the 3 wise men are one of my favorite displays)
Wyatt was going nuts...he was screaming and laughing and pointing at all the glittering lights.
He LOVED it.

And we loved it too...spending time together is always the best ;)

Wyatt: The Unwrapping of GIFTS

So, first off, I just had to point out that I have the cutest kiddo ever, sportin' his boy jammies and a mohawk. Awesome.

Moving on...
As you know, for Christmas this year we're going to Disneyland with Jeff's family. We're actually leaving on Thursday and will be back Sunday night. We're very excited to go, but it's jeopardized our other family traditions...one of which is opening up gifts on Christmas morning. We originally wanted to bring the gifts with us and open them in the hotel, but since we're carpooling with the rest of the family we realized it wouldn't be very friendly to take up any more space than we needed to. So instead, we decided to open up the gifts Friday night--pretty early, yes, I know, but I work every other night this week...and I really wanted to be there when Wyatt tore into his presents. Which he did--no assistance necessary. I find it interesting that once I was married and then had a child, it's always been more fun to give the presents rather than receive them. I mean, I LOVE opening my presents, but I love it MORE to watch Jeff and now Wyatt.

Wyatt's face is priceless. It's like the forced smile of an impatient child waiting for his mom to take a silly picture so he can get back to the presents...ha!

He seriously has been eyeing those presents ever since they went under the tree...and now he FINALLY get's to rip them to shreds!

He doesn't even care about the shirts...notice his stare is still on the wrapping paper...

New gift!! Yay!

Look Mom! A BOOK!!
(The caption says 'Mother Goose of Nonsense.' I got two of these board books for $1 each at Target! Dang, I love a good deal!)
NEXT!!

He's tossing out that plastic bag like he knows it's not supposed to be there!! He's a PRO at unwrapping gifts!
PUZZLES!!
He was so excited to start taking all the little pieces off...not so much me though--I just realized what a mess I've gotten myself into. How am I going to keep track of it all?!!

It was so fun to watch Wyatt actually understand what's going on...I can't believe he's already so big and experiencing his 2nd Christmas!!
Tomorrow: Temple Lights!!

More family pictures?? ENOUGH already!!

I know, I know...you've seen a lot of our family pictures lately, but for some reason it's just been the season for it...
These pictures were also taken by my dear, very pregnant, friend Noelle, and I used some of them in the Christmas cards I sent out. I'll just share a few of my favorites!

Fatty-McFat Fat

I was feeling particularly fat today (we all have our days) and knowing that I'm not really fat, I decided to prove it to myself by trying on my wedding dress.

Although it does fit a little tight (truthfully, it felt like I was wearing a corset), I can still zip it up through my waist. Any further up and it was a no-go.

Conclusion:
My boobs are fat.

Dang babies. They'll never appreciate the fact that I gave up my body for them...

Oh...
sorry Mom.

Santa Claus is comin' to town!

Since we have a busy schedule this Christmas, Jeff's side of the family decided to do our Christmas dinner and gift exchange last Sunday. We had a Mexican food potluck, opened our gifts from our each other, and then also attended a Musical Fireside.

Lilly likes to attack Wyatt...I think it's because he's got her binky ;)

Wyatt was SO EXCITED to finally be able to open the gifts...that's all he's been wanting to do for DAYS now...
A basketball!! Yay!!

...do you hear jingling...??

...could it be...do you think...is it...SANTA?!!!
Why yes! It is!! He made an early stop just for us!

My boys checkin' out the Big Man in Red...
Wyatt was a little grouchy from lack of nap, but he did pretty well...
...but it only lasted a few minutes...

Maybe he'll do better next year!

FINALLY!! It's decorated!!

We got our Christmas tree the Saturday after Thanksgiving, but I was only just able to decorate it last week...
BUT FINALLY!!! It's all done!
I'm so glad Wyatt is able to enjoy it this year...even though he wants to touch EVERYTHING.
My tree decorations came from necessity. The first year we were married, my mom passed down some of her first ornaments to me...and they were blue. It wasn't my first preference, but they were still beautiful and I was grateful. Since then I've been able to mold it into my own style and it's turned out to be a blue/white/silver snowflake tree...

The latest addition are these silver bells with snowflake cut-outs...from Pier One for $1 each!! Love it. My mom is really good at helping me find some cute stuff ;)
This is one of the first ornaments I got on my own...and I still love it.

And of course, we can't have anything but a REAL tree...something about the smell and fullness just drives me wild...

Nostalgia

Recently I decided I needed to hang one of our wedding photos on the wall next to all our family pictures in the living room. I haven't looked at my wedding pictures for over a year because they're on my laptop which remains put away. I decided to download them onto a CD and view them on the computer, and while I was browsing through them I realized my favorites had changed since the last time I looked. It's weird how that works, but I decided to share some of the ones I really like.

This one is right after we came out of the temple...first time as husband and wife :)
