Prayer time

It's absolutely amazing how much little children understand. I know I've said it before, but, like...REALLY. They understand a WHOLE LOT more than we give them credit.

(So Wyatt, I KNOW you KNOW when I tell you NO, that you KNOW NO means NO...)

Anyway, this isn't really a new development, but I thought I'd show you because it's so dang cute. Wyatt has always been pretty good about being reverent during prayers, ie he knows to be quiet and will sit still until the prayer is over. And usually, as a family, we hold hands, but that was one thing he WOULD NOT DO. So, in result, we would ask him to fold his arms, put his arms in the right position, and then we would fold our arms and say the prayer. Now, on his own, any time we tell him it's time for a prayer, or if we ask him to fold his arms, he will. And after every prayer is over and we say 'amen' he says "aba." How he gets a 'b' from a 'm' I have no clue...
Love it!!

His father's child

I have always been an ice cube...as in, I'm constantly in a state of cold. Even during the summertime I like to sleep with a blanket.

Jeff on the other hand is ALWAYS hot, always sweating. In the wintertime he has been known to turn on the AC in my car, and turn the fans on in our home.

Wyatt has inherited Jeff's genes.

Exhibit A: Wyatt will wake up in the morning with frozen limbs. AND HE DOESN'T CARE. And I know he doesn't care because I've seen him push the blankets off...and then he wakes up in the morning with a smile.
Exhibit B: Wyatt sweats...a lot. For the ten minutes that I hold him while putting him to sleep he will have drenched my arm in sweat. And that's with NO blankie.
Exhibit C: Wyatt likes to play in the dog's water bucket at Opa's house...in March...on the cement...naked. (That's after he ran through the sprinklers and got his clothes all wet.)

(This was just funny because my dad had a piece of leftover bread and both Wyatt and the dog were taking turns sharing)

Yes. Yes he is his father's child.

...apparently we're rednecks...?

Some of you may not know, but we have a very small 'backyard.'

It's really more like a 'patch of dirt' in the 'back' of our home.

Anyway, it was really ugly when we moved in...just dirt and rocks and really big chunks of cement . I really wanted to put grass in so that I could actually go outside and have Wyatt play.

It was a nice thought.

But it didn't really end up working out.

We did end up seeding winter grass back in October, and it came in beautifully...we just didn't plan very well for what we would do when it grew...because, you know...grass grows. And it needs to be cut. But we didn't have a lawn mower, and to buy one for our 'patch' seemed a little...ridiculous.
Sooooo...by the time we (and by 'we,' I mean Jeff of course) finally cut it, the grass had turned into a jungle...so we had to use a weed-whacker to tackle the beast.
We whacked it just a few days ago--that's 5 months of growing, and it was probably just as tall as Wyatt. The rain from the day before had matted it down a little...
Jeff was so embarrased and couldn't figure out why I would want to document this...
..he said, "You want everyone to know what rednecks we are?!"
Hahaha, I just laughed...

Better luck next time, patch of grass...

 Alfalfa anyone?

boys will be boys

Sometimes I catch myself and others saying,
Yep, he IS a boy...
...like when he nose dives off the couch...
...or tries to eat dirt...
...or likes to play in the dog's water bucket and gets completely soaked...
...or specifically avoids my outrstretched arms, walks around me, and plays in the rocks...

...when I find him playing with his Hot Wheels cars...all by himself.

the squirt bottle

Does anyone else's kid love this as much as mine does?

...because he thinks it's the greatest thing.

note to self...

...don't leave the unfolded laundry in Wyatt's reach.

...especially my bras.

(P.S. He did this COMPLETELY on his own. I went to put away my make up and not ten seconds later I came back and he was playing peek-a-boo through my bra.)

Jeffrey darling was gone away on a business trip over his birthday, so his Mommy decided to have his party this last Tuesday :) Well, the family party, that is...

Short story before we start the festivities...

Wyatt and cousin Lilly are hilarious together. They get along swell. Lilly always likes to take Wyatt's binky the second he comes in:
... and then she sticks it in her mouth (sorry Lilly--bright flash!!)
...and then she decides to give it back.
...and then he whispers sweet nothings into her ear. haha! They're adorable.

ANYWAY, Jeffrey wanted steak for his birthday dinner (it came with baked potatoes and green beans!) and it was delicious. The weather was beautiful so the dinner table was set up outside!

Grandma and Grandpa Downs

The group, minus a few boys...

We always have a good laugh when we all get together...these are a few of Jeff's workout accessories to accompany his newest toy...

...a boxing bag!! He got this a few weeks earlier, and thanks to the addition of some 251bs weight plates from his parents...
...he got to actually punch it!!

And he loves it! Hopefully this thing will get used more than the 20 other odd workout equipment I bought him and he never used more than twice...

Happy Birthday love!

Dress Up Part 3

And this is it.

The last part in my 3-part series.

This is, again, one of Grace's brilliant ideas...in which we embarrassed ourselves conspiculously, laughed quite enormously, and the next day...I was sore tremendously.

Seriously. This is who we are.

fake out...

There aren't many of Emma because the poor lass was feeling ill...but she did enjoy our plethora of goofy faces and accidental injuries.

I love these girls.

Until next time, Grace and Emma...

...I'll be recovering from my sore butt.

Dress Up Part 2

Grace is literally the head-brain of all our creative juices when it comes to fashion and craziness. She'll be the first to suggest the theme of our photoshoot and the first to tell us to 'pose Vogue.'

...and with that crazy brain of hers, she asked my mom to pull out all of the old, vintage outfits she had.

I didn't even know my mom had some of the things she pulled out.

And without further ado, a few of my mother's favorite outfits...and they actually fit us! And what's even better--they're CUTE!

This is Emma sporting a cute...jumper?? My mom called those pants 'poop pants,' because they had a really low crotch...but it was the style, haha!! (They actually remind me of 'Aladin pants')

And here is Grace wearing my mom's 'going away' dress for after she was married:

And here I am, posing in a very hot, and very hott (haha) wool skirt (without the jacket, although it was darling, because I was DYING...)

Done with the posing. Time for the crazy.

One sneeze to start it all...

We were trying to see how many double chins we could produce...I think Grace won that one...

...until next time!!

Be sure to tune in for the finale of the Dress Up series!!
