Logan's Latest: 10 months!

T-minus 2 months until the big number 1.

How does this even happen?
I remember as a kid thinking birthdays took SO LONG to roll around...
...and now I keep wishing time would slow down...

My tenth-month-old:
-had one more tooth break through, and has another on the way
-got sick for the first time (vomiting and diarrhea included...yay.)
-celebrated his first Halloween AND Thanksgiving (and I'm pretty sure he enjoyed Thanksgiving 100% more than Halloween...he didn't really appreciate his Halloween costume, and wasn't given any candy...boohoo.)
-has started pointing at things to direct our attention to wherever he's looking
-L.O.V.E.S. mimicking us...and thinks it's hilarious
-is still mostly sweet and mellow, but on occasion has quite the temper.
-eats everything
-is adorable.

I LOVE him!!

too busy.

Waaaaay too busy.
In fact, I'm pretty sure my lack of sleep and non-stop busy-ness has led to the destruction of my immune system, thereby leaving me with this stupid cold...
...which leads me into my first point...

I'M SICK OF THE SICKNESS!!
Not only were both boys sick, they then got Jeff and I sick, which led to a WHOLE week of cleaning up the most vile messes.
AND THEN, just when I thought we'd all recovered, one of the boys got a cold, and then gave it to his brother and ME.
So now I'm dealing with multiple snotty noses, coughs and itchy throats...

BUT, during all of our ills and aches and pains over the past week and a half, we still managed to have fun and keep busy.

The day after Wyatt's birthday was the very casual "Playdate at the Park."
I wanted to have a "birthday party" without it actually being so formal...so I invited all our close friends (most of which have children Wyatt's age) to come to the park for a few hours and have lunch and socialize...it was a good excuse to see everyone, and all the babies had fun playing together. Wyatt opened a few gifts and then I just happened to bring cupcakes and made party favors for the kids who came...I didn't take any pictures, obviously, but I think it turned out pretty well.

Right after that was over, we hurried home and showered Wyatt and Logan and put them down for naps so that they would be happy for...family pictures!!
It's that time of year again when Christmas cards are sent out, so we crammed in a photo session that afternoon...

Here's a little sneak peak:

Thanks again Noelle!

THAT SAME DAY, the sisters were reunited!! Grace and James drove down (and drove through the night) just so they could make it in time for Wyatt's little park party. They've been here the past week and it's been really fun, as it always is.

...and then...
...it was Thanksgiving!!

I meant to do a whole "Thanksgiving" post, with our lists of things we're thankful for, but...I couldn't find the time to do it. We did go around as a family though, and name off things we're grateful for, so that was good enough.
Jeff played in his annual tackle football Turkey Bowl, but miraculously avoided injury this year! Hallelujah.
We spent the whole day at my parent's house, preparing the turkey (it was brined and then smoked), making other dishes, EATING our Thanksgiving feast, playing games, and looking at the Black Friday ads...
...and while I was utterly disappointed the stores opened on Thanksgiving night (not to mention, also disappointed that there really weren't any good deals) we headed out to Target, Ulta, and Old Navy at midnight to see what we could find...
...and it wasn't much.

Meanwhile, Jeff had fallen into a turkey-induced coma earlier that night and so he had stayed at my parent's house with the boys while I went out. After I was done shopping (at 3am!) I headed home to grab new clothes for everyone and to take a shower, but...I ended up falling asleep in my bed...
...and it was sooooo easy.

A few hours later I woke up and headed back to my parent's to get ready to go to the temple with everyone...
...sadly though, Jeff felt compelled to stay home and clean up a mess Wyatt had made...that is, to clean up the whole bottle of B&BW shower gel Wyatt had dumped all over Emma's bedroom floor...
...he was cleaning the whole time we were in the temple.
I think he was a little upset.
(...more than a little...)
But on the positive side, Emma's room now smells like Coconut Lime Verbena!! AND her carpets are clean!

After that fiasco, Jeff really wanted to hang out, so we did a little grocery shopping...
...stopped at Sonic and got a treat....
...and then we came home, and I went out with my sisters again to Target...

...and then I did this little doozy on my lip!
And this picture is from TWO DAYS AFTER.
It was a lot worse right after it happened...
...I described it like a lip injection gone horribly wrong, haha! It was really bad.
The story isn't very impressive--I was trying to dodge Emma from putting a beanie on my head and I turned around and ducked right into the handle of the shopping cart.
Yeah. Lame.

But the best part was knowing we had the
Van Capelle family pictures the next day.
And I was going to have a fat lip.
Awesome.
So anyway. The next day, Saturday, (yesterday) was family picture day at the temple (again)...
...and small business Saturday (Jeff and I bought lots of Dutch goodies at the House of Rice)...
...and then after that was Wyatt's FINAL birthday party with all extended family.
We invited the Downs' to come over to the Van Capelle's for dinner (Nasi and saute) and then enjoyed the rest of the evening together...
It was perfect.

And that ends the craziness of my life the past couple of weeks...
...but I suppose it's only going to get busier, seeing as Christmas is JUST around the corner!
I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving!

birthday night

So just as soon as I say that Wyatt doesn't like smiling for the camera, he goes ahead and does it magnificently!?
stinker.

My baby turns 3!!

We kept his birthday pretty simple, since we've got a few other things planned for him with our friends and family...

I made cheesecake brownies for his cake...
...and he got to open a few gifts from mom and dad and Logan...
...in this picture he was getting excited about the fact that the gift was in a swimmer's diapers box, haha! He thought that's what he was getting, when actually he got a few more books :)

It was a quiet night, and a good ending to a 3rd birthday :)

Wyatt turns 3 today.

As I sit here wrapping birthday presents, I honestly cannot believe it has been 3 years since I had my sweetheart Wyatt.

3 YEARS!

I almost want to cry, just thinking about it...
...he'll never be my baby again.

Sometimes, a lot of times, I have to remind myself that he will never be this small again, that one day he won't need me to help him get dressed, or want me to cuddle with him, or ask me to play with him...

So I have to remind myself to love every precious second...even when he's naughty and I want to pull my hair out...
LOVE THOSE BABIES.
Cherish them.
Hold them.
Kiss them.

Sorry, it's getting a little misty over here...
::ahem::

ANYWAY, my baby is 3...
He's talking SO MUCH...and I'm getting better at interpreting it all :)
He loves pointing out letters or numbers, and knows his colors and how to count to 12 (I think. It changes occasionally, haha!)
He's just started counting "how many" and loves that too.
He loves to read books, and has just found a new interest in playing pretend. He likes to pretend to cook and make me food, he likes to pretend he's going to work like daddy (with a good-bye kiss to me and everything!), he likes to pretend Logan Bear is a baby and will carry him around and feed him and change his diaper.
He adores his little brother and they have the most hilarious laughing fits.
He's still a big-time momma's-boy and still needs a cuddle every day to put him to sleep for nap-time. And yes, he still takes a nap, for at least 2 hours.
His love for food has not diminished, but he has become a little more picky in his old age...although going to bed without dinner is NOT a favorite past-time.
He's slowly developed selective hearing, and at times doesn't hear me as well as I'd like...we're working on it, but it's hard when the world is SO interesting and he is SO curious/mischievous.
He is so sweet.
He is such a boy.

This is one of my favorite recent pictures of him...

...and as you can see, he's developed an adverse reaction to the camera, so I don't have very many of just him with a good smile...
...but he's a cute stinker all the same.

Happy Birthday Wyatt.
I love you.

Logan, the sick baby.

The last few days have been rough.
It feels like I've been cleaning up this little man's messes ALL. DAY. LONG.
...and when I say messes, I mean DISASTER.
Poooor baby Logan.

Thank goodness you make up for your woes by being super cuddly and irresistibly cute.

Now...don't get me sick.

Logan, the bear.

This is what I've been doing the last few days...
...WELL, not ME...
...but Wyatt.

It actually started when he started "feeding" this bear an empty bottle right after the real Logan had finished it...then Wyatt said he was poopy and asked for a diaper...so I gave him one! And now he's obsessed with changing pretend poopy diapers.
Silly boy.

get outside!!

Every time I drive home on the 202 E Red Mountain freeway, I pass a certain...hill?
Wannabe mountain?
Whatever it is, as I pass it I remember "hiking" it while I was in Young Women's...
(...and the reason hiking is in " " is because I don't remember it being very strenuous, but I guess it technically was a hike because we used it to pass off one of our girl's camp requirements.)

ANYWAY...
...I've been wanting to take our family on this hike because I knew it wasn't very long or hard, ideal for carrying a baby, and just enough work to tire out a toddler.

Today turned out to be the perfect day to go.
Jeff just happened to get off work an hour early, giving us that much extra time before sunset.
The weather just happened to be gorgeous, with billowy clouds and a breeze.
And I just happened to have two extra happy children, who were ready for an excursion.

And so, with only a little planning, we all piled into the car and headed over to Microwave Tower at Spook Hill Mountain Preserve.
(and I'm not making this up...I've never heard the name of this place, but that's what Google is calling it...)

I don't understand the whole sock situation...haha!

My boys! ♥

I've finally come to peace with the fact that it's almost impossible to get a family shot where everyone is looking and smiling...so I'll take what I can get :)

We had fun looking at the cars and the airplanes...

The views were beautiful!

We stopped at one point, before reaching the top, and Wyatt had fun running around in the bushes...

We made it to the top!!! It was a very open, flat area, and it was large enough that Wyatt could run around...we had to keep a hold of his hand though, because that kid would try to fly off the mountain if we let him...

We packed a light dinner, and the boys loved it...
(...but when do they not love food?)

One view from the top

More attempts at a family shot...

On our way back down, the sun had already set behind the mountains and Jeff said it looked like Mordor :)

...apparently being held and snuggled the whole time is tiring! I tried to keep him awake by holding him facing out, but even then his head kept bobbing up and down from falling asleep!
So I gave up.

Jeff and I were really surprised how fun this was, and I think we'll do it again. It's a great way to get outside and be active, especially with the kids...
I can't wait for next time!

because it matters.

I don't care who you vote for.
We're all entitled to our own opinions and beliefs.
BUT PLEASE, make sure it's an informed decision.

Vote for the candidate you think will do the best for this country, whatever that is.

And then...
GO VOTE!!!!

There's still time!!

nonsensical, thankyouverymuch

It's most likely because it's so late right now...
...but it could also be that I think my children are hilarious...
...either way, this movie makes me laugh.

My favorite part is when I try to "fix" Wyatt's glasses and he says, "No! Not like that! ...ugh."
Or maybe when Logan sits at the door and waits for Wyatt to come back, like a little puppy.
What silly kids.

stray thought

I don't know what it is about that just-woke-up look, but I LOVE it on babies.

Happy NOVEMBER!!
