new jobs

I've been putting off this post for a long time, not because it isn't important, I just hadn't decided whether or not I wanted to actually sit down and write about it. My blog has become less "deep" lately, and while it's still personal and dear to me, I try to keep it very upbeat and post only about the good times, and the happy and fun memories. And that's okay, and generally all this blog has really been. I like to remember the fun times, and in fact, that's what I love most about my life--that while it ISN'T perfect and things never go my way all the time, I can still have a good time and find happy moments. For me, posting hardships and negative experiences seems like such a downer. I certainly don't like remembering painful things, so why would anyone else want to read about it? Now obviously, like I've admitted, my life isn't perfect, and it IS a downer occasionally, and without opposition in all things we wouldn't know true happiness without sorrow. So in a way, I guess I am grateful for my hardships, I just don't like everyone to see my struggle. I mostly fear the judgement that may follow. No one likes to be judged for how they handle the hard times, or to worry about how someone might think of your decision-making skills in life, but I have come to the decision that sometimes it is good to remember how you felt and how you have grown.

Now...before anyone goes and thinks I'm having some sort of crisis, I'm not. This is actually supposed to be a happy post, a celebratory post of sorts, because I'm writing this to remember that I am no longer a part-time mom. My wish was granted, I quit my job, and now I am a full-time, stay-at-home, mom.

The guilt of working with two young children, driving them back and forth from babysitters, giving my job as mother to someone else, was my hardship. Not knowing when or if the opportunity would ever come for me to have my dream job was my sorrow. The process of quitting, afraid of the unknown, whether we could support ourselves on just one income, was my struggle. And now it's all over. Prayers were answered, and I feel so blessed.

Jeff got a promotion in January, with a pay increase, within the same company he'd been working with for the past 13 years. It was different from anything he'd ever done before, a desk job in purchasing logistics. He struggled, but thought he would like it better over time as he learned more and got more familiar with the work, just like he had with all his other promotions. It didn't get better and he was miserable. By March he was coming home every night defeated and overly stressed. He turned to his old missionary companion, who lives a few blocks from us, and owns his own business, for help. He'd previously offered Jeff a job, and now Jeff was seriously considering it. I was not. I was comfortable with the job he had which provided a steady paycheck, a reliable set of working hours, and a safe reputation. None of which, I felt, this other job would present. But, despite my misgivings, Jeff felt it was the right thing to do and was so overjoyed with his new prospects, that one Monday in March he quit his job at Cactus and started his new job the next day. Even with his positive outlook, and all his confidence, it took me over a month to decide that I could quit my job at Target. Isn't that funny? All I'd ever wanted since becoming a mom was the opportunity to stop working, and as soon as I it was given to me, I was hesitant. But I felt as if I was giving up a lifeline. If anything had ever happened to Jeff and his job was compromised, I knew I could work full-time to support us. And I was leaving that safeguard behind. I was letting it go. And it terrified me.

Obviously, I eventually took that "leap of faith" and did quit my job, and it really wasn't as terrifying as I imagined. Well, maybe a little...

(Losing my 10% discount was a major blow, though, haha!)

But honestly, I am so happy. Even the adjustment of being with the boys all the time hasn't been too hard. (Though, I have been traveling non-stop it seems for the past month, another bonus to not working). Mostly I am thankful. I'm thankful to Jeff for his hard work, I'm thankful to Heavenly Father for blessing our family, and I'm thankful to everyone who supported me or our family in some way while I was working, moral support, mental support, all of the above. Thank you.

that one time we had a surprise party for that one guy I know.

So this was over a month ago...
...yeahhhhh, and I'm just now posting it.
But it was a super cute surprise beard-themed party, and Amy did so well, and we all had so much fun...
...so I had to at least post the ONE picture (comprised of many pictures) that I have from it.
For posterity's sake, you know.
Happy Birthday Tim!!

INSTAgram.

I'm back!! Sorta! I'm still trying to catch up from last month, so it's going to take a bit to update this! But it definitely helps when I have internet access, so...yippee!!

My parent's peach tree exploded in May and just about brought the tree to the ground--it was that loaded. Luckily for me, the perks of being a beloved daughter and lover of peaches, I got to dine on them to my hearts content. And I DID.

I say this almost every day, if not a million times a day.

A post is soon to come of this, but this was from our annual Memorial Sedona trip! It was lovely, as usual.

Oh, and I've been married SEVEN years!!
I know that sounds like an afterthought, but I really do appreciate my handsome man and our commitment to marriage. The only difference this year is that I don't have a whole post dedicated to it! No time!! We've been unBELIEVABLY busy this year, with all sorts of fun trips and activities. But I still love him!

It also helps that he took me on a hot (and expensive) date!

Peanut butter, nutella, and banana sandwiches are messy, but DEVOURED.

Cheerio the bunny is still alive and getting big. He loves to roam the garden...which renders that white fence completely pointless.

National Doughnut Day at Krispy Kreme!!

Waiting at the airport to go to SEATTLE to make our way to our ALASKAN cruise!!

And crossing the border into Vancouver!
My first time in Canada!

Grandma and Grandpa Downs watched the boys on the weekends for us while we were away, and sent us this picture of our very handsome little men.

And although it's only "officially" summer as of a day ago...we've been living it up in the sun and getting gorgeously tan for MONTHS.

Wyatt gave his first talk in Primary and did GREAT! He was perfectly himself, with crazy faces and a few waves at Grandma and Grandpa Downs (who were fortunate enough to already be there in our ward), be he was loud and clear and wonderful! So proud of my little, not-so-little, boy!

{mother's day} photoshoot

For Mother's Day this year I was really conflicted as to what I wanted to do for my mom. I've been wanting to do a siblings photoshoot for a while, but I didn't know if it would be something my mom would want/like.
I decided to go ahead with it.
...last minute.
VERY last minute.

There were only two weekends before Mother's Day, and I decided on a Thursday to do the pictures that Saturday. By some MIRACLE everyone was available, including our photographer Noelle. The second miracle was that the weather was beautiful and overcast, very different than the hot weather we'd been experiencing just days before. The third miracle was that it didn't rain until just after we left.

It was pretty much meant to be.
We had a good time taking the pictures too, and here are my favorites:

Mother's Day

I know I'm only a week late, but...

Happy Mother's Day!!

My own dear mother has recently commented how she wishes I would blog more, and I decided I do too. I know I often say I should blog more, but then I don't. So I've decided to start looking for opportunities to blog, and it won't be hard now that I'm not working (which reminds me, I should probably blog about that too!) So anyway, Happy Mother's Day, Mom! You're getting your wish!!

Mother's Day was a busy one for me this year! Not only did we celebrate Mother's Day, but we also celebrated a few family birthdays on the Downs' side, so I was busy getting together a TON of gifts!

Also, these cards--SO time consuming.
And not to toot my own horn, but just so you understand the depth of what I did here...
...I had to create the original heart template, and then trace and cut out each individual heart--85 hearts in total, in 12 different pages of paper! And then I had to figure out each layout, since they were all different (which wasn't so hard, but I had to decide what looked good, and what looked better)...and by the end of it, I decided never to do something like that again. Whew. It took me over 10 hours to complete 12 cards. But hey, they turned out cute, huh?? Hahaha!

These roses.
Ooooohhhh....so gorgeous.
(I picked them out for myself, while shopping for flowers for my mother-in-law...I just couldn't help myself! They were too tempting!)
I honestly would take flowers over chocolate ANY DAY.

The little men who made me a mother...

Aren't they precious?
(some of the time!)

Sorry for the repetitive nature of these pictures, but I had to show off the corsage my mother-in-law got me for Mother's Day! I always love to wear flowers too...

And to all the mom's out there, I hope your day was special. I hope you were treated like a Queen and that you got all the love and attention you deserve!

girls weekend, take 2

Let's be honest.
We're not really adults.

Yeah.

Our annual girls weekend trip tends to get way past crazy.
It's definitely fun, and you'd be sorry you missed it, but one weekend is enough to last me the whole year.
Oh, but I love those girls. Oh. ::wink, wink::
Thanks for the good time ladies! Bonus points for having running water this time!

easter babies

Easter was fun this year, as always. A bit more stressful, but I think 8am church always makes things a bit more stressful anyway. After church (which we miraculously made on time) we took pictures, and per the norm, my children would not cooperate.
Well, not at the same time anyway. I'd get one to smile, and then other wouldn't. Or if they were both smiling simultaneously, my camera wouldn't work. Speaking of cameras, I've come the realization that they are almost obsolete. It's sad really...

ANYWAY, here are a few of my favorites, because they are funny.

Logan with his brooding look...

Annnnd Logan with his tough-guy pose.
Awesome.

Awww, but look! My oldest baby actually listened and smiled his normal, cute smile! (Which is exactly what I have to tell him to smile like, otherwise I get a plethora of unattractive gawks. Though, I'm sure I'm just being repetitive there, since a gawk is always unattractive. But I digress...)

I can always squeeze a candid smile out of Logan...

And here's Cheerio again. The boys love that bunny like a puppy.
Literally.
Poor thing.
